BEAT LEAGUE rules

At a Glance

  • 2-hour on-site beat challenge.
  • Same sample for everyone.
  • Finals played anonymously for fairness.
  • Jury + crowd vote.

Basics

All participants receive the same sample to use in their production. They are asked to build a beat around it for 2 hours without knowing their opponents. Their only advantage is the equipment they bring themselves (Laptop, MPC, DAW etc.) but in the end, all of the participants are limited to the same sounds (Drum samples, Synthesizers, etc.) as well as the space and power provided by the event.

Judging

After the 2 hours are over, the beats are collected and presented by BEAT LEAGUE to the jury, and the audience. The beats are then judged by the jury and audience, based on the following 5 criteria and a maximum score of 10 points each, giving a total maximum score of 50 points.

  • Sample Use
  • Drum Programming
  • Novelty
  • Overall Mix
  • Sounds
